LOCATION – West HIlls, Portland OR | PROJECT – Complex Structural, Decking and Porch Renovaton
The homeowner wanted to renovate the front entry, exterior deck and railing systems. This complex rebuild began a with substantial engineering and shoring plan covering both the inside and outside of the home prior to any work getting underway. Once the plan was established, interior shoring, exterior footings and shoring, seismic bracing was all put in place.
The residence was upgraded with new structural glu-lams, special process joist installations and a bamboo surface on the lower deck. The upper deck was fully rebuilt, and a smooth membrane system installed with a central drain point. Pretty clever for a unique shape and a perfect sloping system.
The completed decks in the back of this steep sloping lot loaded with trees, tall windows and vaulted ceilings has now become an entertainer’s deck to enjoy. The very complex support system for the multi tier deck has been engineered and rebuilt to last for decades.
The final icing on the cake was a custom fabricated aluminum and stainless railing that encompasses the new entry and all the deck areas in back. From special height applications to radius work, the improvements will serve this home well for many years to come.
